Can a Christian hate Israel?

There are people who claim they are ‘Christians’ while they denounce Israel.  They  condemn them as the sole transgressor for their ‘oppression’ of the Palestinians.   Aspects to remember:

  • The Jesus Christ we as Christians confess, is a Jew,

‘Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David.  This is my Gospel.’  2 Timothy 2:8

  • What is one of the definitions of a ‘Christian?’

‘The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.’  Romans 8:16

  • The Spirit will never lead Jesus’ people to curse His ‘brothers,’ the Jews,

‘I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse.’  Genesis 12:3a

The ‘true’ Christian supports the Jews who live in the land Israel.

Will Israel be destroyed?

In view of the overwhelming odds against Israel, both militarily and in world opinion, what are the chances they will endure as a nation in their promised homeland, Israel?  The clamour to annihilate the Jews is incessant.

God answers in various ways.  One such assurance that Israel will not be destroyed is written in the prophet Joel,

‘In those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat.  There I will enter into judgment against them concerning my inheritance, my people Israel, for they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land….’  Joel 3:1-2a

Note the,

‘…my inheritance’

‘…my people:’ three times

‘…my land’

There is no confusion.  The land Israel, that God promised to Abraham and his descendants, is ‘God’s land.’  The descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are ‘God’s people.’

Many might ask whether they can trust God’s words in the Bible?  The answer is, ‘Yes.’  Otherwise there would be no Jewish nation that lives in the land of Israel.  The Word of God describes their origin and their inheritance, the land Israel (that was carved up).

The biggest evidence, however, is the unfounded hatred against God’s people.  It runs parallel to the hatred for God, by people who are influenced by the ruler of this world, Satan.

Will Israel be destroyed?  Not according to God!

God and Israel

We are reminded by all the attacks against the Jews, both in the media and the world in general, after the latest attempt by Hamas to destroy and harm Israel, that the Word of God is so true and wonderful,

‘He [God] has revealed His word to Jacob, His laws and decrees to Israel.  He has done this for no other nation; they do not know His laws. Praise the Lord’  Psalm 147:20

What that verse reveals is that God created the Jewish nation specifically.  It was to give the Bible and the promised Redeemer to all the nations of the world.  God called Abraham and gave him the assurance,

‘…all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.’  Genesis 12:3b

The intent of Israel’s enemies is to destroy them.  Why try the impossible?  God will never let Israel be destroyed.  Scripture testifies to this in the description of the New Jerusalem,

‘On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel….  The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.’  Revelation 21:12b,13.

‘The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city….’  Revelation 22:4a

The twelve tribes, the apostles and the Lamb all share one origin: they are all descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (the latter was renamed ‘Israel’ by the angel of God that wrestled with him at Peniel,  Genesis 32:28-30).

Concerning the Jews, God said through Balaam, the prophet summoned by the king of the Moabites to curse Israel,

‘May those who bless you [Israel] be blessed, and may those who curse you be cursed.’ Numbers 24:9b

Conclusion

We as followers of Jesus need to thank the Jews for the original Scriptures.  We need to pray for them and for those who openly court the curses of God because they curse Israel.  God will not allow His people to be cursed.  They are still the apple of His eye.
