Love Israel, love God

We have just witnessed the hostilities between Israel and Gaza (Hamas).  As usual, the general opinion is that it is all Israel’s doing.

Around 3000 years ago a man named Asaph wrote the following,

“O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still.

See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads.

With cunning they conspire against your people;

they plot against those you cherish.

‘Come,’ they say, ‘let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more.’

With one mind they plot together;

they form an alliance against you…”  Psalm 83:1-4

That ‘you’ refers to God.  Zebah and Salmunna said,

‘Let us take possession of the pasture-lands of God.’  Psalm 83:12 (referring to Judges 8:6)

They did not say that it was the pasture-lands of Israel.  No, they called it the pasture-lands of God.  So they understood that Israel belongs to God and the Jews are God’s people.  When you touch the one, you touch the other.

What are we to make of it?  Only one thing.  People who love the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob cannot hate Israel.  Combined with that is that Jesus is a descendant of David and therefore a Jew.  It is hard to conceive that those who denounce Israel are lovers of Jesus.  Therefore we need to pray for those people.  Asaph gave us a prayer,

‘Make them like tumbleweed, O my God,

like chaff before the wind.

As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,

so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm.

Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your Name, O Lord.’  Psalm 83:13-16

The followers of Jesus pray for those God/Israel haters to come to repentance.  We do not pray damnation and death on them.  Hell is a terrible place and God has room in His Kingdom for everyone who is willing to repent of their sins and accept His forgiveness.

As you can see in the photo, there are two of us. We live and work together 24/7, studying and enjoying our grandchildren. Our passion is to know and understand what will happen after death. Is there a way to provide for and invest in that?
