A person commented on our blog, ‘Bible bashing proves God is real.’ He regards it as an insincere argument (see comments). As is often the case, no arguments are brought forth to convince us why we shamed Jesus.
# To make the point clearer: the devil rules the world.
- In the garden of Eden, the devil asked Eve a question, ‘Did God really say…?’ 1 The devil trapped Adam and stole his God given right to rule over creation. 2 So the devil became the ruler of the world, as Scripture says, ‘…the whole world is under the control of the evil one.’ 3
- Jesus acknowledged it, “The devil lead Him to a high place and showed Him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to Him, ‘I will give you all their authority and splendour, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So, if you worship me, it will be all yours.’” 4 Jesus did not repudiate the devil and tell him that it is a lie. In fact, Jesus affirmed three times that the devil is the ‘prince of this world.’ 5
# The devil hates God.
The devil is God’s enemy. He influences people to hate and resist God, Scripture and Jesus’ followers. His work is to always challenge God, deny, oppose and blaspheme Him. He influences people, ‘Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one, and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous.’ 6 Cain was the first son of Adam and Eve. The devil trapped him to persecute his righteous brother, Abel.
# There is a sustained fight against Scripture
Do we see any sustained assault on the person and work of God and the Bible through the ages? Yes. Throughout history there was a sustained fight against Scripture. The Roman emperors tried to destroy the Bible physically. There was Marcion, Celsus, Voltaire, Bertrand Russell and in our modern times it is the new atheists and liberal theologians. 7 Today, there is hardly any doctrine of the Bible that is not under fire. The theme never changes, ‘Did God really say?’
# The Bible and followers of Jesus are not a danger to society.
Yet it is interesting that the current news does not report that it is the followers of Jesus that send suicide bombers to kill innocent people and commit atrocities to women, children and others who don’t agree with what they believe. What is wrong with the Bible? Nothing, but it irks God’s enemy, the devil, and he influences people to wage war against God and the Bible.
These words explain it all, ‘Why do the nations conspire [or rage] and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against His Anointed One [Messiah, Jesus].’ 8
